Deadlines

The deadlines listed below are only for items requiring Full Board review and approval. These deadlines are necessary in order to receive, inspect, process and distribute the significant number of submissions for each Full Board meeting. Exceptions to the deadline are considered only if subject safety or well-being are at jeopardy.

Click here for more information about Full Board Meetings, or see also our Investigator Guideline on Principal Investigator and/or Study Staff Attending IRB Meetings.

NOTE: deadlines are subject to change but not without advanced notice. When visiting this web page, please press the “Shift” key on your keyboard while pressing the “Refresh” (Internet Explorer) button in your web browser’s toolbar. This will insure that you download the current web page. If you do not follow the direction above, your browser could show you an older version of the page located on your hard drive instead of downloading the current page off of our web site.

Please note the following:

  • It is the PI’s responsibility to submit his/her paperwork before the deadline.
  • It is critical to submit the proper paperwork before the deadline. Failure to submit proper paperwork (including the use of current, complete, and accurate forms) may result in your submission being returned to you!
  • Exceptions to meeting deadlines will not be granted for submissions that were previously returned to the PI.

NOTE: OHRP (the US Department of Health & Human Services – Office for Human Research Protections) has ruled that investigators may NOT collect or use data on projects for which IRB approval has expired. Since it is the investigator’s responsibility to renew their projects in a timely manner, we strongly urge all investigators to insure that Continuing Reviews are (1) submitted prior to the required deadline, preferably two meetings before the project expires, and (2) include complete and accurate paperwork. To assist PIs, the IRB sends out expiration notices 90 days, 45 days and 7 days prior to the study’s expiration. We also offer PIs the ability to view their project expiration dates year round on our Web Tracking Page (for paper submissions) or the current status of myIRB submissions on the submission workspace.
