11/08/2012: New Addendum for Department of Defense funded research

IRB-01 has added a new Addendum (U) to cover the requirements related to studies funded by the Department of Defense (DoD). Addendum U must be completed for all new studies that are funded by the DoD. myIRB will soon be updated to incorporate this in the submission process as well.

Investigators do not need to do anything for existing studies that already possess DoD funding. The DoD Human Research Protection Office (HRPO) typically rectifies deficiencies by requiring investigators to revise their projects with the IRB. Therefore, existing projects should already comply with the DoD requirements.

Use of Addendum U insures new studies are compliant and streamlines the approval process by pro-actively addressing any issues HRPO would otherwise have.

Existing studies that add DoD funding (were not previously approved with DoD funding) will need to complete Addendum U as part of a revision to the IRB.
